Sometimes the new pond owner may not realize that the pond isn’t operating as it was intended. This was the case with Tony,s pond. He called to see if we could make the pond look or work better at the new home, he had purchased. It didn’t take long to diagnose that this pond along with its filters hadn’t been cleaned in several years. After draining and removing the fish, we were amazed that it worked at all. The sludge was so deep that the bottom gravel wasn’t even noticeable..After a day long cleaning , Its good as new. The fact that this pond was even working , before the clean out ,testifies to the fact of a working eco- systems results. How often do you clean your pond.

I think I might need rehab or something,It seems that every time I turn on the TV , someone is having to go to rehab for a consuming habit or trait they have. Well I am often over come with longing and desire to build a pond.Sometimes the need can be put off by looking at ponds, or reading about a pond.This is only a temporary fix for me. Is being an addict so bad? I’m going out tomorrow to get my fix. I hope this one lasts, or maby , I don’t, That would mean that I get to do another pond.

A leak is one of the deadly curses you never want to hear about when it comes to your pond. A pond leak isn’t that common compared to how many ponds exist, but if its your pond , it can seem like a disaster.Leaks aren’t always that big of a thing, The hardest part seems to be locating the leak, or even verifying if a leak actually exists. If your sure one exists then the next thing is to find it,This may take some patience, it may take several days to determine where it is. Don’t panic, this is par for the coarse.After the leak is found the repair doesn’t necessarily mean major repairs. In fact repairing the leak is sometimes the easy part. The repair will be determined by what the pond is constructed out of , such as liner, concrete, fiberglass, or something else. This is the occasional  price to ponding, but its worth it.

Here it is January, The phones are starting to ring( or buzz) . We usually don’t get started into our spring maintenance season until about March, but with the storms of this winter, a bunch of ponds, and streams are full of everything from mud to trees. This gives us the opportunity to get started early. Don’t misunderstand…I welcome the work, but I hate seeing all that damage. Well here we go off on what will undoubtedly be a better year than last.

I guess it really is a matter of perspective. I received a phone call from a pond owner of five years. This lady was happy with her pond and needed an after storm clean up.  The job turned out to be pretty cut and dry with nothing out of the ordinary. A few days later she called again and left a message that she was un-happy.  Uh-o .  I went over to her house to find out what the problem was. we stood in front of the pond together, when she said look at it, its awful. I didn’t see anything wrong ( it looked like before) After a few moments she let me know what her problem was. She told that for the last few years ,she had been  happy with her pond, and weekly bragging to her friends was the norm. However, after seeing the examples of our other customer’s ponds.She told me ” mine looks like a pearl necklace” I cant stand it!  Can you please build me a pond , the your way…..   Yes Mam We Can .

One large pizza with sausage and cooked tomatoes. After hanging up I was checking my E- mails and found a solicitation for me to become a Certified Pond Installer.That was the claim from the pond supplies manufacturer. Well I am a happy Certified Aquascape Contractor, and have been for some time. To obtain my certification I had to be a working pond installer, undertake more training, submit examples, which were then critiqued and other things including ongoing education and more. My point here is , being certified isn’t and shouldn’t be easy.

Well I wasn’t actually interested in this certification,but I had some time until my pizza arrived, so why not check it out. I went to the web site and started there training. After the first paragraph I quit reading. Since I was doing this just for fun I decided to go strait to the test.

The crux of this is that from ordering my pizza to the time it arrived , I had become a Certified Pond Installer, and the pizza was great.

We build a lot of ponds and waterfalls. Even if the construction is finished and water is added, We have come to firmly believe that its not finished until plants are added. Plants inside the pond and out make the water feature more inviting. Your pond was probably built for more than one reason, and one of them usually is to draw people to it. Without the addition of plants your pond doesn’t have a majority of its personality. With the right plants in the right place, your pond is a jewel, without plants your pond is a water hole.

This is the time of the year that the phone starts ringing for pond maintenance. Most of the time people ask for a clean out ,tune up,touch up,or even service, but no matter what you call it. The pond needs attention. It might be a simple bulb change or a full clean out.Maintenance could be a one time thing or an on going service. Every pond will need something a little different than the last .

No matter what it is you need for your pond, make sure that the person doing the work is experienced in ponds,( its not the same as pools). Sometimes more damage can be done by an inexperienced hand than if it had never been touched at all.
